Teachers Discovering Computers

What is Teachers Discovering Computers?

Teachers Discovering Computers (TDC) - Integrating Technology in the 21st Century Classroom is an online, instructor-led technology and digital media course for educators. This course is intended for novice and experienced technology users alike who aspire to learn how to do more with technology and digital media in their classroom or job function. The National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T) and the National Technology Standards for Students (NETS-S), developed by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), are integrated throughout the TDC course curriculum. The curriculum also addresses the recently refreshed Technology Standards for School Administrators (TSSA).

Why should I enroll in TDC?

Student needs and learning preferences are changing.

Just as the world of technology is limitless, so are the opportunities for engaging your students through its effective integration. Today's students are plugged in more than ever before, and they need a fast-paced, multi sensory digital environment in which to learn. Fortunately, there are so many creative ways you can use technology to connect with and engage your students. If a student missed class due to illness, or you want to repeat a lesson for in-depth learning, consider how much time you would save by creating a video screencast. In addition to maintaining student interest, technology can also provide students with special needs and those who are learning a new language additional support. However, if you are not aware of what's new in the world of technology, you can't take advantage of it.

What can I learn from TDC?
  • Characteristics of a digital generation and how its members learn.
  • How to become a digital teacher and meet the needs of digital students.
  • The effects of globalization and how this affects America's competitive advantage.
  • How to adopt your teaching strategies to reach all of your students, regardless of cultural background.
  • 21st century skills that students need to succeed in the global economy.
  • Curriculum-specific strategies for helping your students meet the 2007 National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS-S).
